VF Tip: Not all sugar is vegan! White sugar is commonly filtered through animal-based charcoal during the refinement process. If you want to avoid refined sugar, try looking for vegan-friendly versions such as unrefined cane sugar, evaporated cane sugar, beet sugar, turbinado sugar and raw sugar. Other vegan sweeteners you can try are maple syrup, agave nectar, brown rice syrup, barley malt syrup, coconut sugar and date sugar. Sweet!
